What is it about humanity’s fascination with the grotesque?

Our obsession with the gruesome slasher movie, the freshly splattered roadkill, with images of war, destruction, and disfigurement? What do we hope to uncover by engaging with these horrific moments of brutality?

These questions fuel the exploration of my work. Through my prints and drawings, I investigate the human relationship to monster and man’s inexplicable attraction to that which repulses him. Inspired by artists like Francis Bacon for his horrific yet elegant portraiture, my work aims to use moments of beauty to captivate the viewers’ attention and challenge them to find something of themselves within these monstrous mutations.
